Recently I picked up a fitness magazine claiming that aspartame is actually good for sugar levels. This could not be farthest from the truth. I want to remind everyone that Aspartame, and all those aspartame containing sweeteners (look at your sweetener packets, your diet soda, gum, etc.) are cancer causing. Please use natural sweeteners! So with everyone claiming to be “all natural” today; and having no regulations in place around the term; I thought I would take a moment and shine some light on this very important topic.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the best sweetener is no sweetener, but we all knew that already. Sometimes we choose to use sweeteners so it’s important to know which ones are safe and which ones are causing cancer.

Safer Sweetener Options

While I agree that no sweetener is the best option; when it is time for a sweetener the more natural the better. By “Natural” I don’t mean on the label, I mean closest to it’s original state. Think of fruit as a natural sweetener, it’s grown on a tree and sweet from harvest.

  • Agave Nectar

  • Maple Syrup

  • Stevia
